People are constantly throwing off a storm of signals. These signals may be silent (non-verbal) messages communicated through the sender’s body movements, facial expressions, voice tone and loudness. Microexpressions, hand gestures, and posture register almost immediately, a silent orchestra that can have long-lasting repercussions.

When dealing with the business world, it’s especially important that you’re aware of your body language. Your nonverbal cues and gestures can make or break relationships, and may have a significant impact on your success.

Amy Cuddy delivers this enlightening TED Talk on body language. Cuddy is a professor and researcher at Harvard Business School, where she studies how nonverbal behavior and snap judgments affect people from the classroom to the boardroom. And her training as a classical dancer (another skill she regained after her injury) is evident in her fascinating work on “power posing” — how your body position influences others and even your own brain.
